From Six Flags Magic Mountain’s closure of Colossus to the SCV Purge, the Santa Clarita Valley’s residents have had a roller coaster of a year.

“As we move into 2015, I want to let you know that the high level of customer service, transparency in government, excellent capital improvement projects and responsive local government you enjoy will continue,” said Mayor Marsha McLean, when she was passed the gavel in early December.

KHTS AM-1220 has compiled the top stories from 2014, based on web traffic, to give the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley one last look at the last year.

“We had so many important stories impacting us in Santa Clarita in 2014,” said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220. “The ones to keep our eye on for 2015 include Cemex, the drought and the impact of Obamacare on our local businesses.”

There are also big plans for development in the Santa Clarita Valley’s future.

Among the programs to be developed by the city of Santa Clarita, she mentioned:

• A new community center in Canyon Country
• A new library and community rooms in Saugus
• A new and larger Sheriff’s Station in the city
• A state-of-the-art Tennis Complex at Central Park
• More open space acquisitions and trail enhancements
• Completion of the Arts Master Plan
• Working with L.A. County and the Committee on Aging for a new Senior Center

“We are seeing positive signs of growth in Santa Clarita, both in the housing market, development and the expansion of local businesses,” Goldman said. “We look forward to the expansion of Disney’s Golden Oak Ranch and a number of exciting new businesses coming to Santa Clarita in 2015.”
