SCAA Brings The World Of Art To Children

The Tesoro Adobe will be holding a free public reception from 12-4 p.m. on Saturday, featuring face painting and coloring books for children.

Adults can view artwork, enjoy appetizers, tour the museum, which houses collectibles from the 1930’s, and take in the beautiful scenery of cacti, succulents and desert flowers surrounding the Tesoro Adobe Historic Park.

“Bring your children and expose them to the fun of art,” said Laurie Morgan, outgoing president of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association.  “The SCAA is constantly trying to find new ways to expand and broaden the community’s view of art in the Santa Clarita Valley.”

Organizers are hoping for a pot-luck style food turnout and are encouraging participants to bring their favorite dish to share.

The event will also have entertainment which will include:

  • Manak Khamvongsa, a guitar teacher and performer living in the Santa Clarita area, is originally from northeast Thailand.  Khamvongsa has performed and studied music in Boston and Los Angeles.  His solo repertoire includes traditional classical Spanish guitar, jazz arrangements and original compositions.  He also performs frequently with artists such as flutist Scott Mitchell, singer Mary Courtney and bassist Todd Johnson.

  • Scott Mitchell San Fernando-based woodwinds instructor and performing musician.  He is a member of the Ventura Jazz Orchestra and many professional bands in Los Angeles.  His musical styles include jazz, bossa nova, classical and rock.

  • Mary Courtney, who sings with the COC Jazz Ensemble, and the Alyse Korn Trio. When she lived in LA, Mary performed weekly at World Stage and was guided by jazz greats Dini Clarke, Barbara Morrison, Jackie Ryan, and Cathy Segal-Garcia. Her musical likes also include Broadway, folk, Celtic, and the most poetic popular songs.

The Tesoro Adobe Historical Park is located a 29350 Avenida Rancho Tesoro 91364.For more information about the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association click here.
