“Scream Park” promises thrills, chills

Six Flags Magic Mountain is ghouling up for the 17th year of its Fright Fest Halloween experience. Starting October 3 and running for five fearsome weekends, the “scream park” will be haunted by a host of creepy characters haunting rides, shows, mazes, and “scare zones.”

In designated areas of the park, patrons will be stalked by roaming zombies, clowns, and other phantasms, while also enjoying “dead” music from local bands. Scott Ramp and his “Scream Team” of make-up artists return once again this year to reduce the more than 300 actors to various levels of decomposition.

In addition to returning favorites like the Heckles and Twitch clown show, the Fright Fest attractions will include two new mazes, the werewolf-themed BITE and Lector’s Slaughterhouse, and a post-apocalyptic scare zone, Aftermath Alley.

Some of the park’s roller coasters will also be given a terrifying twist. Select rides will be run with the lights off, and brave souls will get to experience the classic wooden coaster, Colossus, backwards.

For younger victims, Bugs Bunny World will host a Trick or Treat Trail, Kid Scaryoke, and a Costume Contest.

Fright Fest hours are 10:30 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
