Castaic Elementary School Principal Evans will be biking from San
Francisco to Castiac in an effort to raise money for the school.
“He is trying to raise money for the school so that the children can have more shade trees, and so we can implement more physical fitness programs through the school,” said Ellen Cunningham, chairperson for the Castaic Elementary PTA bike-a-thon. “Hopefully we’ll get enough to also plant the school garden to go along with the curriculum.”
Evans’ ten-day adventure will take place during fall break, and will kick-off with a celebration at the school on Friday, October 3. The students will say goodbye to their principle by waving him off with their well-wishes, support and appreciation.
This dedicated principal will be traveling alone, save for his trainer following in a trailer, but he will not be keeping his daily sightings and experiences a secret.
“During every day after the ride, he’s going to be blogging on the computer through a website they set up for this ride, trying to keep the children involved. That way they can get on the website and follow along with his daily tracks” Cunningham said.
Teachers at the school will also be utilizing his trip to incorporate into math lessons, physical fitness, and California geography lessons.
The school is looking for sponsors and any kind of donations to support Mr. Evans’ endeavors to bring better equipment and programs to the children of Castaic Elementary.
Evans will finish his strenuous trek by riding back into the school on Monday, October 13 to awaiting students, teachers and faculty members.
“Because of him, we’re also trying to implement a healthy lifestyle campaign throughout the school.” Cunningham said.
