Hart District resumes classes
It was back to school Monday, Aug. 20, for more than 23,000 students in the William S. Hart Union High School District. The current enrollment is 552 students over the count at the close of school in June, but the Hart District says that the real increase is expected to be closer to 350 students once the files are purged of students who withdrew over the summer without notifying their former schools.
The district has hired more than 130 new teachers, some to accommodate the district’s growing enrollment and others to replace teachers who have retired or left the area. New teachers have been on duty since Aug. 10, participating in in-service training offered by the district and their individual schools. Returning staff have been on duty since Aug. 15.
The new school will move to COC’s Canyon Country campus when its facilities are completed in a week.
Most students in Hart District schools picked up their class schedules and textbooks at summer check-in earlier this month, allowing teachers to launch into instruction from the first day of class. Parents will have an opportunity to meet their children’s teachers and learn about such things as curriculum, classroom rules and homework expectations during Back to School nights which will be held throughout the month of September.
