SCV Chamber supports Hart District construction bond after lengthy consideration.
The controversial Measure SA, a construction bond sponsored
by the William S.
Hart High School
District, received the support of the board of
directors of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning.
The board voted on a list of measures and propositions on
the November ballot, but the school bond vote wasn’t exactly a slam-dunk. After
the Government Affairs subcommittee made no firm recommendation for the board’s
direction, a presentation was made to the board, which resulted in the vote of
support.
In other issues, the chamber supported Proposition 11, which
would create a redistricting commission and endorsed Castaic Lake Water Agency
board candidates R.J. Kelly, Bill Cooper, Jerry Gladback and Bill Pecsi.
Four measures were opposed by the board, including Prop. 1A,
which would provide for the issuance of bonds to finance a high speed rail and
Prop. 10, the alternative fuels initiative as well as both Los Angeles County
Measures R (the half-cent sales tax increase) and Measure U (the utility users
tax continuation).
