Southern California Edison officials confirmed Sunday evening that less than 200 people were without power after a downed power line shut off electricity to thousands of residents.

The City of Santa Clarita Twitter account posted an alert for residents just after 2 p.m. Sunday, updating residents. The outage is not related to the Charlie Fire burning in Castaic.
POWER OUTAGE: @SCE has confirmed a power outage affecting approximately 12,405 customers in Canyon Country due to down power lines. Estimated restoration at 3:30. NOT related to #CharlieFire. We will post further updates when available.

By 3:45 p.m., SCE officials were able to get a more accurate estimate of the total number of people impacted by the outage. Of the 5,023 residents affected, 198 were still without power by 4 p.m.
Edison officials confirmed that a car striking a power line caused the outage.
