A vehicle on the I-5 Freeway sparked a small brush fire in Weldon Canyon Thursday night.

Just after 6 p.m., reports were received of a vehicle fully engulfed in fire on the southbound 5 near Weldon Canyon Road, according to Supervisor Sims with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The vehicle fire spread to the brush,” said Supervisor Peters with the Department, “It was somewhere between half and a full acre, but it’s been contained.”

Both the brush and vehicle fire were out by 6:45 p.m., according to Peters.

The car fire was on the right shoulder, according to Sims, and is expected to cause some slow traffic in the area.
