The fires caused alarm initially because of the high wind warning in the Santa Clarita Valley area for the day. However, a fast response led to quick control for both blazes.

A Saugus area blaze near the Lily of the Valley mobile home park, near Shadow Valley Road and Bouquet Canyon Road, was contained before it threatened any structures.

It was reported shortly after noon. Firefighters appeared to have the blaze under control by about 1 p.m.

The first fire was reported in the Newhall area, about 1 mile south of the Newhall Avenue exit, next to Highway 14 freeway, around 11:45 a.m., according to fire officials.

The No. 4 and 5 lanes, rightmost, on the northbound 14 freeway were closed for a couple hours, while fire officials battle the blaze. The fire remained at about one-eighth of an acre

Los Angeles County Fire Department established containment after the brush fire in light grass burned about 4 acres, next to the northbound Highway 14 freeway.

Multiple aerial units initially assisted fire engines, however, the response was reduced to one engine, with containment expected shortly, as of 1:30 p.m.

No injuries of threatened structures were reported.

The fires come amid a warning from Santa Clarita Valley officials about weather and high winds through Saturday.

The wind gusts are expected to reach 50 mph in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to National Weather Service officials.

  1. Thanks goodness for the firefighters who hopped right on this one. We saw the smoke coming up from Newhall Pass, and the wind was really whipping around us, so we knew it must be bad up there. Cheers to our firefighters for knocking it down before it became a major conflagration.
