UPDATE: Newhall Fire Burns Less Than Two Acres After Vehicle Erupts In Flames

The Newhall Fire near the 14 Freeway has burned less than two acres after a vehicle fire spread to the surrounding brush Saturday evening, officials said.

The blaze, dubbed the Newhall Fire by first responders, was first reported at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday on the northbound 14 Freeway north of the 5 Freeway, according to Supervisor Miguel Ornelas with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A vehicle caught fire on the freeway, leading to a brush fire, Ornelas said.

Forward progress was quickly declared at 8:50 p.m, according to Fire officials.

The final size of the fire is estimated to be about 1.75 acres, according to reports from officials on scene.

The No. 6 and 7 lanes are blocked for an unknown duration on the northbound 14 Freeway north of the I-5 as of 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
