Rye Fire

Overnight, the Rye Fire held at 6,049 acres, and firefighters gained even more ground, reaching 90 percent containment on the fire.

Named for the Rye Canyon Loop in Santa Clarita, where the blaze started, the Rye Fire threatened homes in Valencia and Castaic Tuesday before heading west along the 126.

Just over 650 firefighters are still working this fire as of Sunday morning.

Creek Fire

The Creek Fire, which charred about 16,000 acres near Sylmar, was also 90 percent contained by Sunday morning, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze started the same morning as the Rye Fire, burned south of Santa Clarita, prompting some fears during the height of the fire that it would spread north to Canyon Country.

However, by Thursday night, all evacuations had been called off, and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

It threatened at least 2,500 structures and burned 60 homes while damaging 54 homes in it’s path.

Thomas Fire

The largest of the fires burning in Southern California, the Thomas Fire has charred 173,000 acres in Ventura County, and containment is still at 15 percent.

Around 15,000 structures have been threatened, 754 destroyed and tens of thousands of people have been displaced as the fire continues to move north.

Nearly 4,500 firefighters have been working around the clock to save as many homes as possible.

The Thomas Fire is the largest fire ever to burn in Ventura County, ands the largest fire in the entire state during the month of December.

As the fire moves northbound along the 101 freeway, officials called for  mandatory evacuations in all areas between Highway 150 and the 101, Camino Carreta, Rincon Point Rd, Buena Fortuna, Casitas Springs and Dickenson Ranch Rd.

Portions of Carpinteria were evacuated Saturday night,  and UC Santa Barbara students are being prepared to evacuate Sunday.
