Two people were found dead Friday afternoon in the 3300 block of Mullholland Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. On Saturday morning, homicide investigators made their way to the scene, which is in the area the Woolsey Fire had impacted.

On Saturday morning, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Chief John Benedict said at a press conference that authorities were investigating the deaths as fire-related fatalities.

The Woolsey Fire, which has caused smoke to drift into the Santa Clarita Valley, has reached over 70,000 acres, destroying at least 150 structures and threatening over 3,000 more.

The blaze was still at 0 percent containment as of Saturday afternoon, according to CalFire officials.

The fire jumped the 101 Freeway Friday morning, blazing a path through the Santa Monica Mountains and south to the ocean. Neighborhoods in Malibu, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabasas, and the Los Angeles community of West Hills, were forced to evacuate as flames neared homes.

Acting Governor Gavin Newsom has sent a letter to the president and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requesting to support the communities impacted by wildfires burning across the state.

“These statewide weather conditions are predicted to remain in California for several days,” said Newsom in the letter. “As such, these fires will continue to grow and pose further threat to the health and safety of residents throughout California.”

The Woolsey Fire broke out around 2:25 p.m. Thursday in Ventura County, southwest of Santa Clarita, pushed by strong Santa Ana winds which prevented aerial assistance, according to officials.

The fire has placed more than 75,000 homes in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties under evacuation orders Friday morning, destroying multiple structures and threatening at least 30,000 homes in both counties, authorities said.

Evacuation orders are now in effect for the entire City of Malibu and all areas south of the Ventura 101 Freeway because of “extraordinary threat to life or property,” according to Fire officials.

“If you’re in an affected area and have been ordered to evacuate, evacuate,” said LAPD officials in a statement.

By early Friday, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

A plume of smoke can be seen from Santa Clarita, but there are currently no active fires in the area as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to officials.
