Newhall Community Center’s karate team comes out on top at national tournament.
On January 25, 16 members of the Newhall Community Center's karate team competed at the 2008 IMAC USA Martial Arts Winter Olympics in Las Vegas, Nevada and received 10 first place champions, four second, and two third place trophies.
More than 1,500 participants from around the country exhibited their martial arts skills in the prestigious competition, and yet every member of the Community Center’s karate team managed to place in the tournament.
The karate program is one of the Center's more popular classes teaching students “self-confidence, respect, integrity, discipline and a can-do attitude that will stick for life,” commented Efren Galindo, Newhall Community Center Sports Coordinator.
The Newhall Community Center's karate team is taught by volunteer instructor Dave Moreno who has helped the award winning team for more than three years.
The Newhall Community Center is located at 22421 Market St. and provides educational and recreational opportunities for youth and families.
