SCV Plans to Submit Grant Proposal to Bureau of Justice Assistance

The City of Santa Clarita will be submitting a grant proposal for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant offered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

The City intends on using the grant money to fund activities conducted by the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Community Interaction Team, which strives to enhance community safety.

Specific programs to be funded include: truancy sweeps to enforce address absenteeism among students, bike patrols in areas not easily accessed by patrol cars (for example, parks, trails, and paseos), and alcohol stings in coordination with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Grant funds will primarily be used to pay overtime hours for the Community Interaction Team that will be implementing these programs. In total, approximately 500 overtime hours would be funded by the grant. Grant funding will also be spent to purchase a video camera and wireless audio system that will assist officers with surveillance and sting operations.

The City is asking for public comments concerning the proposal. Those interested in commenting should contact Tess Simgen, Community Services Analyst for the City, at 661/255-4956, or by email at tsimgen@santa-clarita.com.

The grant proposal is available for viewing online at:
