The Walk For Life, a fundraiser for the SCV Pregnancy Center, raised record donations this year in spite of economic woes. Over 500 participants raised nearly $66,000 by completing a simple two mile course. This was a 65% increase over the 2008 Walk which was the highest in the Center’s history.
This year saw two Walk For Life locations; one began at Bouquet Canyon Church near Central Park in Saugus, and other at Acton Park in Acton. The addition of the second location was aimed at making it more convenient for residents in the area to participate.
“The Santa Clarita Valley communities have always been supportive of what the SCV Pregnancy Center does for the community and have really shown it in 2009,” stated the Center in a release for the media. “The funds raised through this Walk and the Fundraising Gala held in March defies logic when considering the current economy. Between these two events nearly $200,000 in funds were raised providing 45% of the annual budget.”
Angela Bennett, CEO for the SCV Pregnancy Center says that all the needs of the organization have been met this year through the support of their donors. “In this economy, non-profits are having a hard time. We feel very blessed to be in the black, even if just a little.”
The SCV Pregnancy Center is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization offering free pregnancy diagnostic services to the community that include pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, pregnancy education, options information and programs for teens and first time mothers.
