SCV Senior Center Announces Celebrity Waiter Dinner

Plans are currently underway for the SCV Senior Center’s popular Celebrity Waiter Dinner, organized this year by an all-volunteer committee co-chaired by Peggy Rasmussen and Greg Nutter. This year’s event is planned for Saturday, February 23, at the Hyatt Valencia. The Center is currently looking for table hosts and sponsors, with table sponsorships running from $1250-$5000. Various table sponsor levels include VIP seating, wine or champagne at the table, recognition at the event and on the senior center’s website and other perks. All table sponsorships include a table for 10 guests. Individual guest tickets will be $100.

This year’s theme is “Beyond the Sea,” and guests are invited to come in costumes related to the theme. Each table will have a “celebrity waiter” – a celebrity arranged by the committee, selected by the table host or a member of the table host’s own organization.

Tables and waiters will be competing for three prizes: Best Decorated, Best Theme (which includes guest costumes) and Favorite Waiter (the table which brings in the most “tips” and/or donations).

This year, guests are being encouraged to contact their friends, family and social networking contacts to ask for small donations to support the Senior Center’s many programs for local senior citizens. Those donations can then be converted to scrip, which is used to pay waiters for special services or to perform outrageous stunts and to count toward the Favorite Waiter title. Many large donors in the community have been affected by the slow economy, so the Center is relying on many smaller donations to cover their expenses.

Plans for live entertainment provided by the Canyon Theatre Guild and a live auction are in the works.

Proceeds from the Celebrity Waiter Dinner support such senior programs as home delivered meals, respite day care, classes and fitness programs. Local residents interested in table sponsorships, auction donations or individual ticket sales can contact Lisa at the Senior Center, 259-9444.
