The SCV Senior Center and its foundation work with seniors from San Fernando all the way to Acton providing crucial services for the aging.
The center itself provides everything from classes and activities to affordable housing, all through government grants and private donations.
The Senior Center is looking for more help this holiday season, and as to Kathy Crone, fund development director for the foundation, points out it doesn’t have to come in the form of money.
“A donation of $10 buys a senior lunch for 5 days, and $20 buys home delivered meals for 5 days,” said Crone.
Those looking to help can volunteer time, deliver home meals or even host a health and wellness lecture to inform the seniors on a specific subject.
According to Crone 90 percent of the center and the services provided are run by volunteers.
A big service that the center provides for the elderly who don’t travel, or are unable to is their hot meal program. This program delivers meals to the homes of the seniors and in some case are the only personal interactions the individuals have all day.
“More than 9,000 elderly receive some type of service from the center,” said Crone.
