SCV Sheriff’s Station Deputies Enjoy ‘Transparency’ During Tweet-Along

The numbers are in, and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials who participated in a first-ever global Tweet-Along, are calling the event a success, officials said Tuesday.

 “Every day, we are using social media to engage the community that we serve, and we saw this as an excellent opportunity to further that involvement,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Dubin and Sgt. Daren Harris, both members of the station’s Crime Prevention Unit, took part in the event from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Station’s Twitter handle, @SCVSHERIFF, has more than 3,730 followers, as of Tuesday.

While Harris drove, Dubin tweeted about everything from an 8 a.m. citation for an open container of alcohol to the towing of an unlicensed, unregistered vehicle.

“The event was a great way to showcase transparency in law enforcement,” Dubin said.

The Sheriff’s Department’s website receives approximately 1.2 million unique page views each month, according the department figures.

The event saw participation from law enforcement officials from around the world from March 22-23, including New Zealand, Canada and Sweden.

BrightPlanet  tallied the final results from the Global Law Enforcement Tweet-a-Thon, which counted more than 200 police departments from at least 10 countries,

Using the hash tag #poltwt, the site was able to track more than 48,000 tweets from 15,621  users.

Some other interesting numbers the website BrightPlanet  listed:
18,092 – Total Number of Retweets
15,621 Total Number of Twitter Users
23 – Total Number of Different Languages
11,203,796 – Total Outreach (Total of all 15,621 users followers)
