SCV Sheriff’s Station Deputies Respond To Stolen Car Report

Sheriff’s Station officials investigated a report of a stolen white Ford Mustang and arrested the driver, near Lake Hughes Road and The Old Road in Castaic on Wednesday.

Between the California Highway Patrol, the Sheriff’s Station and the Parks Bureau, more than 10 units responded, a Sheriff’s Station official said.

“A deputy responded to a report of a stolen vehicle and what appears to be two other ‘layoff vehicles’ behind,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

“So the deputy asked for assistance, asking for more Sheriff’s Department units and CHP units to come to his assistance in what’s called a prestop coordination,” he said.

The deputy wanted to make sure that, because there were three vehicles, including the vehicle reported stolen, with plates all originating in the same Modesto area, that he could safely affect a traffic stop, Dubin said.

“All three of them yielded without incident. The concern was that there was two other vehicles traveling with the stolen vehicle,” Dubin said. “So for safety purposes, we want to make sure it’s not an ambush situation, so that neither the suspect nor the deputy get hurt.”

Deputies arrested the driver of the Ford Mustang, Angelino John, a 19 year-old man from Modesto, along with a passenger, a 15 year-old girl, also of Modesto, on vehicle theft charges.

The driver of the second vehicle, Vinny Diaz, a 21-year-old Modesto man, and the brother of Angelino John, was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Both vehicles were towed and stored pending further investigation.  The third vehicle and its occupants, who were relatives to the occupants in the other vehicles, were released at the scene without charges.

This investigation is ongoing, and there is no further information available at this time.
