Over sixty local Santa Clarita families will not be returning to their homes in the near future, due to damages from the January storm. In fact, some may never be able to return. The American Red Cross and other organizations have been assisting many of these families, but as the critical segment of our storm damage diminishes, support for these families is also disappearing.
To fill the gap, the SCV Storm Aid Coalition has been formed. The coalition is made up of the Santa Clarita Senior Center, The Santa Clarita Valley Interfaith Council, The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, The American Red Cross, The Signal Newspaper and AM-1220, KHTS radio.
A fund has been established, through the Senior Center, for donations. One hundred percent of all donations will go directly to grants made to Santa Clarita families significantly impacted by the storms to assist in getting their lives back in order.
All Santa Clarita Valley storm victims should plan on attending a meeting at the Senior Center on Wednesday, February 16th at 5:30pm. The Senior Center is located at 22900 Market Street. Call 661 259-9444.
Once individual needs are accessed, the coalition will be issuing grants, on a case-by-case basis. The coalition intends to serve as a bridge for these families to assist in getting them back on their feet and helping them either to return to their homes or find new homes.
We urge anyone interested in assisting to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center at (661) 259-9444.
