The holidays are the time of year we entertain family and friends. Expecting guests is always a great motivator for me to complete some design projects I have been putting off.
Freshen The Front Entry: On the front porch, a lovely door wreath and potted plants say “Welcome”. Maybe a new door mat is in order? You can find great deals at Target and Homegoods for these items.
Inside the front door, clear a path for guests to enter. A container for shoes would be very helpful, to avoid clutter at the front door. Ideally, you want guests to have space to greet you without physical hazards such as book bags, suitcases and shoes. Maybe have a second entry for the family back packs and keys, so the front door is inviting and clear.
Bedroom Comforts: With little effort, you will make your guests feel so welcome and comfortable in the guest room. Add a water carafe on a side table. A lamp for reading is a must, so when guests retire for the evening, they can fall asleep reading a good book.
Freshly washed bed linens are a necessity. Make the bed the morning the guests arrive and add some scented sheet spray for a luxurious touch.
Fresh cut flowers in a small bud vase will demonstrate you went the extra mile to welcome your guests. Choose a non-fragrant variety with vibrant color, such as gerber daisies.
Provide storage in the closet and/or drawers so guests can upack and place the suitcase under the bed. This will ensure a clean room, and your guests will easily have access to clothes during their stay.
Make the bath convenient for guests with fresh towels, toiletries and a hair drayer. Want to really impress, hang a robe on a hook for the guest’s use.
