A blank canvas! That is my playground, an empty room, void of any furniture, wall color or accessories… my canvas to express the design lifestyle of my clients.
So where do we begin? In today’s article, I want to share with you how to find your own design inspiration, which will propel you forward to create a room that you love!
Before I begin designing a space for my client, we have an important conversation. First on the phone, we discuss what is working and what isn’t working in the space. Before we meet in person, I ask my client to gather any images of rooms that inspire her.
Sometimes inspiration for a space comes from a piece of art, the form of a piece of furniture, or a rug.
My task is to take that inspiration piece, and design a space that works with it. I absolutely love to design this way, and I have a talent for pulling a room together around one piece of inspiration.
The rug at left is an inspiration for my client’s family room design. The colors, textures and pattern all suggest a style that I will now carry out in selecting furnishings, accessories, window treatments and artwork.
Your homework then, is to tune into the environment around you, when shopping, visiting hotels or restaurants, or friend’s and relative’s homes. What lights you up? Is it a color? A period of style such as Art Deco? It’s there, living inside of you, if you give yourself a chance to tap into it.
If you want a professional to guide you in expressing your design style, I am here to help! I have a passion for great design. Please call so we can discuss your design project. (661) 430-0127
