Who says the ultimate space for outdoor living has to be large? A small backyard is actually a perfect canvas for an outdoor room as the boundaries of the room are already in place. Did you know – constructing an outdoor room dramatically increases the usable square footage of your home?
Great outdoor living spaces are as carefully considered and planned as any other area of the home. When designing outdoor space for our clients, we select dramatic products and focal points that will truly make a statement, such as a fountain, well-placed sculpture or outdoor fireplace.
To create your beautiful and functional backyard retreat, we suggest you try injecting the following elements into the design.
Color: Furnishings and fabrics in shades that blend with the home’s interior create a restful atmosphere and visually tie the outdoor living space to the interior of your home. There are many Sunbrella fabrics on the market that look and feel like interior fabrics.
Water: Adding the sound of running water in a fountain creates a peaceful element and can mask unpleasant noise. A wall fountain is lovely, or you can place a table-top fountain near your outdoor seating.
Lighting: The right lighting makes all the difference in how your evenings will be enjoyed outside. Strategically placed candles, lanterns or outdoor lamps create effective mood lighting. So romantic too!
Fire: Elements that stir the senses are a natural component of an outdoor retreat. This element can be as simple as candles or as grand as a fireplace.
