Out With The Old And In With The New

Window_Pic1_Marie_Pyle_copy_copy_copy_copyFiguring out the right time to replace your windows can be more tedious than it seems.  Some homes in the Santa Clarita valley that were built in the 70’s and through the 90’s still have those thin and flimsy windows.  If your home is one, then it might be time to switch out the old with the new.

Some obvious signs to look for when deciding when to replace your windows are cracked windows, frost or condensation build up or rotting trim.  There may be some unsuspecting signs that your windows might need to be replaced.  One tell tale sign is if your windows get stuck or are difficult to open and close.  Also, if you can feel cold air in the winter time when sitting next to your window, or if the interior window pane is just as warm or cold as the weather outside, then replacement windows are a must.

The consequences of not replacing your out of date windows does not only empty out your pocket book, but it can cause health problems as well.  If you have older windows you are probably aware of the cold drafts you feel at night time and higher utility bills.  Also, you might notice mold growth around the frame because of excess moisture seeping in.

Even though you might be hesitant at first to replace your windows, it’s worth it in the long run because you will end up saving money and the health of your family.  New windows now come with better UV protection and can help furniture and carpet from fading.  The resale value of your home can increase and new windows can create a more pleasant environment.  The best time to replace windows can really depend on what the homeowner prefers.

“I think most of the time the right time is really a decision decided by budgets and how disgusted the homeowner is with their old windows” said Michael Seright owner of Mikes Windows and Doors.
