On a recent “The Commercial Real Estate Hour” on KHTS hosted by Jesus Henao of Leola Commercial, Inc., Henao talked about how to get a real estate license, whether you’re planning on selling commercial or residential real estate.

“It’s the same license, believe it or not,” Henao said, noting that the business “is totally different,” however.
The first step to getting a real estate license is to either take real estate courses and/or get an associate’s degree in real estate at a community college like College of the Canyons, or obtain a certification through online courses, according to Henao.

“You can continue to get an associate’s degree in real estate at College of the Canyons, which is not a bad way to do it,” he said. “Unfortunately, they’re not going to teach you anything about commercial real estate.”
Once the community college real estate courses or online certification process is completed, Henao noted the next step is to take two courses with the Department of Real Estate.
The first course will be an exam practice course, and participants can choose an elective for their second course from the following topics, according to Henao: principles, appraisals, finance, economics, legal aspects, office administration, general accounting, business law, property management, escrows, mortgage loan, common interest developments and computer applications.
Once these courses are complete, it’s time to take the department’s official real estate license exam, which comes with a $60 fee. This is the process to get your license such as a real estate license New York.
“No more tests are administered on scranton or on paper, everything is done online,” Henao explained. “So immediately once you take the exam, you know if you pass or you fail. It’s that quick.”
If the exam is passed, the next step is to submit the license and pay a $245 application fee, before having a Live Scan request performed for about $22, where the person is fingerprinted and a background check is done.
“Once that’s done and you submit your fees, you can receive your license in the mail,” Henao said. “So at the end of the day, to get your license you’re going to be out $327, and then you’re ready to rock.”
