The Right Tile For Your Budget

800px-Tiles_1Homeowners know that a budget is one of the most influential factors when renovating and remodeling. Tile cost is no different. It’s important to have an estimate of what different tile materials are going to cost so you can make an informed decision about which is best for your budget.

Here’s a list of the most common tiles on the market, and their cost per square foot for materials and installation. However, tile cost varies depending on region, material, and labor costs—so keep in mind this is only an estimate.

Vinyl tile is by far the cheapest available and costs about $1 to $4 for materials and $1 to $2 per square foot for installation.

Ceramic tiles are the most common tile choice of homeowners due to their durability and resistance to water and heat. Ceramic tiles can cost anywhere from $5 to $15 per square foot for materials and $6 to $8 per square foot for installation.

This category includes marble, granite, travertine, flagstone and slate. These tiles are usually the most expensive when it comes to materials and installation. Tile cost for stone runs $7 to $20 per square foot for the material itself, and $6 to $8 per square foot for installation

“Every type of tile is different, tile can be sold by the box or by the foot or individually. It really depends on the tile manufacturer and the type of tile,” Cheryl Ingrassia of Southern California Tile said
