Unipest: How To Exterminate Termites Without Fumigation Using Orange Oil (VIDEO)

Orange oil has gained a lot of attention recently for its unique ability to exterminate termites in the most natural way possible, with absolutely no fumigation required, according to the Santa Clarita pest control experts from Unipest.

“It is a wonderful, wonderful alternative for people that don’t feel comfortable using those ‘harsh chemicals,’” said Cardon Ellis of Unipest.

While most people’s first thought after hearing they have termites is that they have no choice but to temporarily move out of their house so it can be fumigated with chemicals, Ellis noted that this less than ideal option is nearly impossible for some people.

“Moving out is a pain. Vikane fumigations are great … but sometimes it’s impossible,” he said. “A lot of my orange oil jobs are young families where it’s just not feasible right now, between the kids, the dogs, a husband at work that’s unpredictable.”

Not only is orange oil what Ellis called “the closest you can get” to an all-natural termite treatment, it’s also a far more effective form of localized treatment than previous foam-like pesticides.

“Previous to orange oil, you had to do localized treatments with products by drilling into the wood, and you actually had to find the gallery itself so that you could inject into that drill hole the pesticide, usually in some kind of foamed formulation that would travel throughout the wood,” Ellis explained.

The problem with this is that it would sometimes take several drill attempts to even locate the gallery of termites, and there was no way of knowing if any additional galleries existed that were being missed.

However, orange oil treatments only require a single hole to be drilled where the orange oil can be easily injected, according to Ellis.

“Since it’s an oil and not a water-based formulation, it slowly soaks through the entire piece of wood over the next four to five hours, killing all of the termites, their eggs and the queen inside,” he said. “So you don’t have to do this haphazard hack job.”

For those wondering why orange oil is so effective at exterminating termites, Ellis asked if anyone has ever squirted themselves in the eye while peeling an orange.

“Imagine being bathed in that,” Ellis said. “That’s what a termite goes through when you get injected with orange oil. It actually melts the exoskeleton, which is the outer skeleton of the termite.”

As an added bonus, Ellis noted that orange oil leaves homes smelling good, which isn’t typically said of fumigations.

“Fumigations are great … and we offer those too,” Ellis said. “But orange oil is phenomenal as well, and it’s just another option so people have choices.”
