SCVi To Hold Dinner Honoring Key Contributor

Santa Clarita Valley International Charter Schools (SCVi) is inviting the community to honor a key figure in their success at a benefit dinner March 16.

Marti Heinbaugh, regional manager for Mission Valley Bank, has greatly helped SCVi offer students an interactive learning experience by convincing the bank to donate funding and offer her insight on the SCVi Board of Directors, said Carol Stevenson, a parents volunteer at SCVi.

“She’s contributed through advocacy with her employer and vouching for the school,” Stevenson said. “Also on the board, she, like other members, has brought other perspectives and offers her experience.”

Before SCVi opened its doors five years ago, co-founder Amber Raskin approached Heinbaugh because she is a representative of the bank, Stevenson said. Although Heinbaugh saw a potential risk, her efforts have helped the school support 800 students in kindergarten through eleventh grade from its Castaic campus, and a twelfth grade will be added in fall.

“Marti has a big heart for entrepreneurs and when she heard Ambers passion and how thoughtful her research was as well as her ability to answer tough questions she was on board,” Stevenson said.

Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the science department in an effort to continue the schools experiential learning experience, which Stevenson described as project based learning where hands on efforts are made by educators and students to express what they have learned.

“Since SCVi is relatively is young they don’t have a traditional operating budget, we are hoping for more supplies to deepen that experience,” Stevenson said.

The “Vision in Education Dinner” will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Valencia and will offer cocktails, dinner, entertainment, dancing and a silent auction for $90 per person. Tickets can be purchased at scvi-k12.org
