The Santa Clarita Arts Commission did a little recognition Thursday night at its regular meeting, calling up the team from SCVTV for some well-deserved kudos.
Introduced by Commission Chair Paul Strickland, SCVTV President Leon Worden stepped to the front of the room, asking staff members and volunteers to join him, saying, “You say me, but you mean all of us.”

Strickland made sure to mention the long list of arts programs produced and aired by SCVTV, including House Blend, Live On 14th Street, the OutWest concert series, the Juke Joint, performances by students in local schools, including Hart District and College of the Canyons. And he gave special thanks to SCVTV for partnering with KHTS to broadcast his arts talk show “Thursday Matinee.”
Joining Worden at the podium were studio manager Megan Mann, cameraman/director Austin Dave and entertainment reporter and House Blend host/co-producer Stephen K. Peeples.
Bobbi Jean Bell, who owns OutWest, a store in Old Town Newhall where several events have been filmed by SCVTV, gave her own special kudos, crediting SCVTV with helping bring business to Newhall as well as keeping everyone entertained.
“We are a business that deals with cultural commerce,” she said. “Everything we have is art. SCVTV has filmed at least 25 concerts and they’ve filmed local artists and this team does the most amazing job with professionalism.
“These concerts, in a small intimate setting, are getting discovered nationally and internationally, as videos go up on the performers’ websites. They help us take a local presence and give it a national audience,” she continued.
“Thank you (commission) for giving them the limelight and recognition they deserve.”
