Second Escapee Facing 32 Years For Robbery

khts_crime_genericOne of two juries late Tuesday found Jose Antonio Aldana, 24, guilty of home invasion robbery, false imprisonment by violence, assault with a firearm and 10 counts of second-degree robbery, said Deputy District Attorney Mario Haidar.

Earlier Tuesday, a separate jury convicted co-defendant Winder Estuardo Barrios, 24, of the same counts. In addition, those jurors found true the special allegations that Barrios personally used a firearm, a shotgun.

The two men were convicted of a March 2009 crime spree that began with a string of armed robberies in the Hollywood area and included a home invasion robbery in Encino in which the housekeeper and the homeowner’s daughter were tied up at gunpoint.

Aldana returns to court May 21 for sentencing by Judge Sam Ohta. He faces 32 years in state prison. Barrios returns to the same court on June 25 for sentencing. He faces 50 years in state prison.

Both men were arrested within hours of escaping from the North County Correctional Facility near Castaic on April 28 where they were being held during their trial. Charges have not been filed in connection with the escape.
