Detours listed for summer travel
Caltrans will begin the next summer closure of State Route 138 (SR-138) for the safety improvement project beginning on June 11 through September 11, 2007. SR-138 will remain closed during this period, 24 hours per day, seven (7) days a week, with no escorts. The closure will take place from just east of State Route 2 (SR-2) east toward Hess Rd. (between I-15 and SR-2). Two separate summer closures of sections of SR-138 were planned for 2006/2007 to expedite the work.
[view:node_ad=5]The contractor will complete some blasting work the first week of the closure (beginning on June 11) on SR-138 at Mormon Rock east of the full closure and just west of Lone Pine Canyon Road. This section of SR-138 will be closed intermittently during the blasting and earth removal. Detour:For westbound SR-138, vehicles and truckers are advised to use I-15 north to Route 395, turn left on SR-18 and go to SR-138. Use this detour in reverse from eastbound SR-138 back to I-15.
Currently, flagging continues on SR-138 from Mormon Rock west to the Los Angeles County Line, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Night work will also take place on SR-138 Monday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. with flagging until the summer closure. Minor delays are expected during the traffic control.
The contractor expects to have the project complete by the end of October 2007.
The $44 million project will make a number of improvements as follows:
Ø Construct east and westbound truck climbing lanes
Ø Rehabilitate pavement
Ø Widen shoulders to eight feet
Ø Realign curve west of Lone Pine Canyon
