Sen. George Runner was recently named “Outstanding Legislator of 2008” with special recognition by the California State Sheriffs’ Association, an organization comprised of all 58 California County sheriffs.
“We are pleased to recognize Senator Runner as our choice for the Outstanding Legislator of 2008,” said CSSA President Ed Bonner, Placer County Sheriff. “The sheriffs of California appreciate the senator’s dedication and support for law enforcement and we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize his abiding commitment to public safety.”
Senator Runner was particularly noted for authoring last year’s ballot measure, Proposition 6, which aimed to curb gang violence in California communities; and for authoring legislation that would have given law enforcement tools for penalizing sex offenders who run afoul of Jessica’s Law.
“I believe that governments’ number one job is to provide public safety to our communities,” Runner said. “With that in mind, it has been my central tenet to support and author efforts to make California a safer, better place for people to live, work and play.”
