The course curriculum will focus on effective techniques and suggestions for caregivers, in addition to providing a forum for discussion. The classes will be led by care manager Stephanie Sauer, from the Senior Center’s Supportive Services department.
“Caregiving is an emotionally charged, often difficult experience,” Sauer said. “This course is designed to best equip caregivers for the challenges they may face.”
Curriculum topics include:
- Realistically identifying what is “normal” versus “not normal” aging
- Best methods of fall prevention and home safety
- Immediate, practical solutions for identifying and overcoming negative thought patterns
- Proven strategies for engaging in difficult conversations and why it’s important
The Caregiver Bootcamp will meet for ten consecutive Thursdays at the Senior Center on Market Street, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in rooms A-1 and A-2.
There is no cost, but space is limited and reservations are required. To RSVP for the course or for more information, contact Sauer at 661-259-9444 ext. 128 or ssauer@scv-seniorcenter.org.
