Senior Center Plans Caregiver Resource Day

Speakers announced for special informative event.

[view:node_ad=5]The Supportive Services Department of the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is sponsoring a free morning symposium designed to provide some assistance to the growing number of caregivers. This public-service event will take place on Saturday, June 28 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the SCV Senior Center, located at 22900 Market Street in Santa Clarita. Comfort Keepers In-Home Care will be serving as the title sponsor for the event.

The half-day symposium will focus on caregiving issues to enable attendees to learn new skills to help manage the stresses and frustrations of caregiving, as well as learn how to reestablish control over their own lives, plan for the future, and manage difficult behaviors by loved ones.

The symposium will feature a complimentary continental breakfast. The keynote speaker is author and caregiver spokesperson, Brenda Avadian; her recent book, Where’s My Shoes—My Father’s Walk through Alzheimer’s, will be available. Other speakers for the event will be Dr. Michael Holt, discussing how to “Take Control of Your Stress;” and Myles McNamara of Comfort Keepers In-Home Care discussing the “Cautions in Hiring Home Help.” The program will be facilitated by Judith Harris, M.F.T., Caregiver Specialist. There’ll be prize drawings, workshops, and in addition, caregiving-related organizations will be available to provide information on the resources available in the community.

On-site or in-home respite care also at no charge will be provided on a limited “as needed” basis. Call 661-255-1588 to make any needed respite arrangements as early as possible.
