Senior Transit Ambassador Program A Success

Santa_Clarita_SealThe Senior Transit Ambassador Program has been a tremendous success. Since the program’s launch in April 2011, Santa Clarita Transit has seen an average monthly increase of 18% among senior riders aboard its local routes.

“The new Senior Transit Ambassador Program is designed to help Santa Clarita seniors enjoy more freedom and the ease of public transportation,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean. “Utilizing Santa Clarita Transit is a great way for local seniors to save money, maintain independence and increase mobility options around the community as well as to other neighboring cities.”

Santa Clarita Transit, in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, launched the volunteer Senior Transit Ambassador Program as a way to train seniors how to assist other seniors in learning to use Santa Clarita’s local bus system.

As a volunteer Transit Ambassador, senior ambassadors have the opportunity to help teach others about local transit routes and plan “senior-only” trips throughout the year.

On Saturday, August 13, the Senior Transit Ambassador Program will host a senior field trip to the Santa Monica Beach aboard the Summer Beach Bus from 10a.m. to 2:00p.m. Ambassadors will use the travel time to provide new riders with information regarding local routes, schedules, and the TAP program.  The McBean Regional Transit Center is located at 24375 Valencia Blvd.

Santa Clarita Transit local routes are available at no cost to seniors, age 60 and above.
