The verdict followed nearly a month of testimony.

During the 2007 altercation in Stevenson Ranch that involved alcohol, drugs and fighting among two groups of friends, Stephens also stabbed Pipho’s friend, Chad Weitz, several times. The jury was deadlocked on a second count of attempted murder for this incident.

On January 20, a decision on whether to retry the attempted murder count is also expected.

Stephens faces 17 years to life in prison.
