Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department officials are waiting for results from the Stryker Corporation which is the medical devices and equipment manufacturer that produced the metal rod found with the human remains, said Lt. David Smith with the Los Angeles County Coroners Department.

“The remains are still considered an undetermined Doe,” said Smith.

Coroner’s officials have sent DNA from the skeletal remains to CODIS, also known as Combined DNA Index System, which is a DNA database, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

The person is believed to have a “leg injury based on the Coroner’s findings,” said Lt. Steve Jauch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau. “It seems to be a fairly severe injury based on preliminary findings.”

It could be several weeks before DNA tests could reveal the identity of the person, Jauch said.

“The bones appear to be months to years old,” Winter said.

The report of the remains came in around 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 31 at the 26400 block of Bouquet Canyon Road near Lowe’s and the Santa Clara river wash, according to a Nixle news release.

“Workers that were hired by the city of Santa Clarita were cleaning up some debris that has been left behind by some folks that, they believe, were homeless living near the river bed and some human remains were located down there on the south part of the river bed,” Jauch said. “(There are) several, what appear to be, human bones. We don’t, obviously at this point, know sex, race or cause of death but this deceased person has been dead for, at least we know, months or even years. We just don’t know.”

The cause of death and identification of the victim will be determined by the Los Angeles Department of Coroner.

  1. They should rule out Leah Roberts as she went missing and had a metal rod. That is if nobody has figured out who the person was, that was found. It is a long shot but had to mention it.
