Mohamad Taghavi, 30, a truck driver, was taken into custody after several Santa Clarita Valley residents contacted Sheriff’s Station officials about his alleged beating of his German shepherd.

“He was booked on two charges,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit. “The witnesses reported to deputies that they saw the man beating his dog.”

The man was reportedly using his hand and a metal chain, according to the Sheriff’s Station report.

The dog was cowering and whimpering after the attack, according to witness.

Deputies called the Department of Animal Care and Control officials to the scene, and they took custody of the dog, Dubin said.

The man was reportedly belligerent with nearby residents who alerted authorities to the alleged attack and appeared to be drunk, according to officials.

Taghavi is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He’s due at court in San Fernando on Friday,
