Detectives believe foul play was involved, according to a Nixle report put out by Sheriff’s Department officials. The victim’s body has been at the location for an extended period of time, possibly up to four years, officials said.

Based on evidence recovered from the scene, detectives have determined the victim did not die as a result of the Pine fire, which initially ignited on Friday and burned about 150 acres near Highway 138 and Ridge Route Road.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner Office are attempting to identify the remains and the cause of death.

Detectives with the Homicide Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded Saturday to Ridge Route Road south of Highway 138, Gorman, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of possible human remains.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials referred all calls to the Headquarters Bureau.
