Eric Cornell, 25, of Valencia, was arrested at his home on the 24700 block of Masters Cup Way, after deputies attempted to contact him for several reasons.
“Deputies were attempting to contact the suspect, who was on probation, in connection with a probation search and because he was a person of interest in a separate, active investigation,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
A deputy followed Cornell’s movements, observing him climbing out of a window and onto the roof.
After about 15 minutes of talking to the suspect, deputies were able to talk him down and take him into custody without further incident, officials said.
After affecting a search of his residence, deputies found property they suspect was stolen, which might have been taken from CalArts earlier last month, a nearby exclusive private arts college.
The stolen property is several pieces of gardening equipment and water hoses.
Deputies also reported finding heroin, drug paraphernalia and ammunition — which is illegal for a felon to possess in California, in Cornell’s home.
Deputies are in the process of identifying the owners of the property they suspect to be stolen, officials said.
Cornell is currently being questioned by detectives with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station regarding the investigation.
Details about that crime were not released because it’s considered an active incident, officials said.
Arrest records have not yet been updated by the Sheriff’s Department as Cornell was being booked as of the publication of this story.
