Santa Clarita residents reported two pigs on the loose around 8:15 a.m., running free down two streets in Newhall, according to Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“They were running down Peachland Avenue and Cherry Street, and so we got a call for service,” Dubin said.

As deputies waited for officials from the Department of Animal Care and Control to arrive, they were able to successfully herd the animals back to the owner, who lived nearby.

The animals were returned to their home about 90 minutes after the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received the initial report, officials said.

County Animal Care officials are investigating the situation as far as how and why the animals got loose, Dubin said.

For now, all is well with the two pigs who are unharmed and back at their Cherry Street home, he added.

“As you consider commenting on this story online or on social media, we ask you to remember that law enforcement officials are here to serve and protect the public, and uphold a tradition of service,” Dubin said, “a job that requires a thick
skin and a sense of humor.”
