The suspect, who was not identified by Sheriff’s Station officials, was driving a gray Scion on Interstate 5 where he was pulled over for a traffic stop north of the Templin Highway exit around 2:45 p.m., according to Lt. Tom Bryski.
Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed a large bag of narcotics were reportedly found in the vehicle.
The driver and another man were in the back of a patrol car, not in handcuffs, while officials searched the vehicle.
“He was being detained in the back of a radio car and he kicked out a rear window, climbed out of the car and ran across the freeway into ravine,” Bryski said.
The suspect was still outstanding while the other person in the car is in custody. The suspect at large is wanted for questioning in regard to narcotics possession.
A helicopter unit is assisting Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies conducting a search.
The search was reportedly called off before dark.
