Around 6:45 p.m., a deputy patrolling the area of Bouquet Canyon Road, near Cinema Drive, saw a man walking down the street bleeding profusely, according to Sheriff’s Department records.

The man is suspected of trying to kill himself near the train tracks, where he severely injured himself, but managed to survive.

A higher than average rate of public suicides in the Santa Clarita Valley has prompted discussion of the topic among officials.

“Detectives are investigating this as an alleged attempt suicide,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The deputy found the man and while awaiting emergency personnel, assisted the man with his injuries to help stop his bleeding.

“A deputy’s quick action in rendering first aid might have saved this man’s life,” Dubin said.

Sheriff’s Station officials are not releasing the man’s name and, due to privacy laws, are not able to discuss the extent of his injuries.

The man was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he is expected to survive his injuries.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials confirmed that Fire Station 126 paramedics transported the man to the hospital.
