Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded early Wednesday morning to a report of a home invasion in Santa Clarita, where a couple was left in handcuffs after their home was ransacked.

No one was hurt at the home on the 27600 block of Hermes Lane in Canyon Country, at the same house where a marijuana grow operation was found about six months ago.

Two men knocked on the door of the home around 1:30 a.m. and announced themselves as police officers, officials said.

“Two suspects knocked at a door pretending they were police officers,” said Sgt. Ron Price of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Detective Bureau. “They were dressed in casual attire — there was one suspect wearing a pin in the shape of a badge clipped to his Tshirt.”

Once the homeowner opened the door, the suspects brandished weapons, tied up a husband and wife and then ransacked the place.

The suspects didn’t reveal what they were looking for, according to officials, however, the two men searched every room, the attic and vents for something, Price said.

“A third suspect came in and helped search, and after an hour, they left,” Price said.

Eventually, one of the victims was able to get free from the replica handcuffs the suspects used, helped her husband get free and the pair then drove to their business, where they called deputies.

The thieves stole the pair’s cellphones and took a coin collection from the home, officials said.

Deputies received the call around 3:30 a.m.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives will investigate all avenues to solve the crime, Price said, including any possible tries to a previous incident at the home, where more than 70 marijuana plants were found.

During a probation-parole check in March, Gagik Abramyan, 54, and Lusik Abramyan, 50,  were arrested for cultivation of marijuana.

The pair do not have any pending charges listed in connection with that incident, according to officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

When deputies investigated the scene after the home invasion, there was no evidence of a marijuana grow operation or any sort of packaging that might have been associated with that kind of activity, Price said.

No suspects are in custody at this time, Price said.

No other information was available at this time, he said, and the incident is part of an active investigation by the Detective Bureau.
