“Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are always trying to be proactive while on patrol, and we always appreciate the help of residents in the community we serve when it comes to crime prevention,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit.
Responding to Santa Clarita residents’ concern about parking lot loitering near a Castaic apartment building, two deputies contacted a transient near the 27500 block of Violin Canyon Road around 9:15 p.m.
After a brief investigation, the 54-year-old woman was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor for possession of a methamphetamine pipe.
Hours later two deputies saw a man next to a car with its engine running parked in a fire lane, near the intersection of Silver Saddle Road and Palomino, in Canyon Country.
After the deputies contacted the man and discovered he was wet, standing next to a leaking pipe next to his wet tools, they conducted a brief investigation.
After discovering the man was on probation and found he allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine, he was arrested.
The man is suspected of being involved in at least one other theft of this nature, when metals have been stolen from public places, so they can be sold for their value as scrap metal
The Santa Clarita Valley has had several of thefts of this nature over the last six months, according to officials.
The identities of both suspects were not released by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies because the individuals are part of an ongoing investigation into the thefts, officials said.
