Two men were pulled over Monday night in Valencia, after a Sheriff’s Station deputy ran a license plate for a gray Inifiniti that came back with an outstanding warrant for a previous narcotics-related incident, officials said.
Mitchel Szpak, 24, and Gregory Szpak, 28, of Santa Clarita, were arrested on drug-related charges.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Tournament Road and McBean Parkway around 5:30 p.m.
Deputies also seized a large amount of cash in a black Adidas duffel bag, which is under investigation by detectives with the Narcotics Bureau, according to Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“It’s being investigated to see if (the source of the cash) was legal or not,” Cambra said. Sheriff’s Station officials did not disclose how much cash was found in the bag.
Mitchel Szpak had an outstanding warrant, and Gregory Szpak was arrested on suspicion of heroin possession.
A Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station K-9 unit investigated the vehicle after the suspects were arrested, and no additional narcotics appeared to have been found, officials said.
Mitchel Szpak is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail for a misdemeanor charge. Gregory Szpak is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail on a felony charge.
In an unrelated incident, three men were arrested for a grow operation taking place near the Templin Highway exit of Interstate 5 in North Los Angeles County.
