Desiree Martinez, 43, who lived on the  23200 block of West Avenue D, was arrested Monday on an animal cruelty charge.

Deputies immediately began an investigation after they responded to the call for service, contacting various people in the area.

Deputies discovered a small pitbull mix inside the suspect’s residence.

The dog was severely injured and unable to move, according to deputies. There were injuries to the dog’s eyes, and other areas.

“(The pitbull’s) condition is stable,” Betsey Webster, Department of Animal Care and Control official.

Deputies conducted an interview with the suspect, who was eventually arrested.

Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control officers also responded to the location and, with the help of Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, took custody of the dog.

The dog was taken to the Lancaster Animal Care center, according to a Department of Animal Care and Control official.

The suspect is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

She is scheduled to appear at Los Angeles County Superior Court in San Fernando on Thursday.

The dog was removed from the location and transported for medical treatment.

The condition of the dog is unknown at this time.

No further information is available at this time as this is currently still an active investigation.
