A scuffle on a Santa Clarita-bound Metrolink train led to a brief altercation with a sheriff’s deputy and, likely, an arrest, officials said Thursday morning.

“We have a sheriff’s deputy assigned to Metrolink involved in an altercation with a person who did not have a valid fare in the train,” said Lt. Leo Bauer of the Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services division. “Both individuals suffered very minor injuries.”

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies received a call shortly after 9:30 a.m. regarding a passenger who didn’t have a valid fare, according to Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The passenger allegedly got into an altercation with the deputy. The suspect’s name was not released at this time by officials.

“We’re still in the process of investigating the incident to determine what actually occurred,” Bauer said.

No arrest has been made at this time; however, the suspect, who was on the Antelope Valley line from Palmdale, is expected to be booked on at least a fare evasion charge after he is out of custody.

There was no major service interruption, according to officials, and the suspect was in custody as the train stopped at the Via Princessa Metrolink station in Canyon Country.
