The Sheriff’s Department had special teams deployed to respond to calls for service and combat the use of illegal fireworks in Santa Clarita, according to a Sheriff’s Station news release.
“Last night alone, we had 208 calls for service, so it was extremely busy,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. “And that’s on top of the regular Friday night calls… I believe 208 calls for service specifically related to fireworks is one of the highest numbers we’ve had to date.”
Deputies responded to a total of 32 calls specifically related to illegal fireworks between 9 p.m. Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday, and 208 calls between 9 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday.

Approximately 60 pounds of illegal fireworks were confiscated by deputies and delivered to Los Angeles County Fire Station 126 in Valencia for disposal.
Sanchez’s arrest occurred after he reportedly was seen by paramedics standing in the middle of the street and appeared to be intoxicated, according to a Nixle news release.
Sanchez was booked on felony charges at the SCV Sheriff’s Station at 1:36 a.m.
Deputies also responded to a fire in the area of Fourl Road and Wiley Canyon Road in Newhall at 12:35 p.m. on Friday, according to the news release.
The fire, which occurred in an alley, allegedly was started by illegal fireworks.
No one was injured in the fire and it was quickly extinguished by Los Angeles County firefighters, Dubin said.
“Throughout the weekend, if people witness illegal fireworks, they should give the sheriff’s station a call,” he said.
