Daniel Constantino, 21, of Canyon Country, aka “Penguin,” was arrested five days after he stabbed a man repeatedly on a Newhall street, following an investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives with the Career Offenders Burglary Robbery Assault team, or COBRA.

He pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon as part of a negotiated plea, according to Deputy District Attorney Guy Shirley, who prosecuted the case.

A second suspect, a woman, was initially charged; however, there was insufficient evidence to prove she was at the scene, according to Shirley in a previous interview.

Constantino did not admit to the gang allegation, but he did admit to inflicting great bodily injury with a knife.

Constantino pleaded no contest to charges he parked a Chevy Impala alongside the victim, got out and stabbed the man several times outside of a party near the apartment complex Sept. 15, according to officials.

The severity of the attack is why officials initially brought forth an attempted murder charge, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The victim was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was treated. The victim survived the attack.

The Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA team investigates gang-related and certain juvenile crimes in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Constantino was sentenced Aug. 13, the day he entered his plea.
